My First Travel Companion.

Growing up, I was an only child for six and a half years. My parents would travel around a bit with me, but the real fun began when my younger brother, Thomas, was born. It was then, that I got my very first travel buddy.

Today, Thomas turns twenty-one, so I thought there was no better way to honor our travels over the years than with a post that keeps him in mind.

Our family would travel mainly along the East Coast of The United States. From road trips up to Massachusetts or all the way down to Florida, and everywhere in between, there was no shortage of laughter in the car. Like kids usually do, we would drive our parents crazy with Mad Libs or with our crazy songs made-up songs.

But, it was our road trip in Europe that left memories that will stay with me for a life time. We were together for over three weeks and were able to bond unlike ever before. Whether we were stuck in hours of traffic in Italy, making up songs about fish in Croatia, or battling the stomach bug in Ireland, we tried our best to make it through with a smile and encouraged each other to do the same.

Though its been years since we’ve been on the road together, and our more recent travels take us on different paths, I hope to one day make more memories on the road with my very first travel companion. Because the memories we’ve made together so far are ones that I know neither one of us will ever forget.

  1. What a great way to honor your brother. I did a similar thing for my dad’s 70th birthday this year. He wouldn’t take a gift, so I wrote him a post. I’m very impressed with how well y’all seemed to get along. My older brother and I are 5 years apart and we fought like crazy all the time, but especially on vacation. I’m jealous!

  2. Erin, very sweet. I have an older sister who adores her baby brother (as much as he does right back!). We are planning a trip to Spain together to celebrate a milestone birthday for her! Neat way to remember and celebrate your first travel buddy!

    • Thanks, Raul! Aww, love that your sister feels the same way I do about her baby brother and vis versa. 🙂 I also love that you are planning a trip to Spain together! Hope that me and Thomas can plan a trip together really soon. 🙂
