My Next Adventure: Scuba Certification.

In all honesty, I am not the ocean’s biggest fan. Sure, I’ll snorkel, go banana boating, and float around for a while, but each time all I am thinking about is what lurks beneath. So I’ve found, that as I get older, I’m much more content with my feet in the sand and a drink in my hand.

That being said, scuba diving is something I have always wanted to try, and as much as I fear the ocean, along with the creatures that live in it, I am completely intrigued by the world that lives below the surface. Which is why, I have decided to start my scuba certification.

This all started just a few months ago, while I was putting together my bucket list. It was then, that I started to think long and hard about my life and what I wanted to do during my time here.  Even though I would have to face some fears to try scuba, I knew that it was something I wanted to try before my time on earth was up. So I added it to my list, not knowing when it would be crossed off.

But, lucky for me, in February,  Gilt City offered a discount for certification at The Scuba Network in Manhattan.  I immediately jumped on the opportunity and decided to take Jeff along with me, not that he minded since scuba certification was also on his bucket list.

After a few weeks of dragging our feet to start, the other day we finally decided to head in for our orientation.  Entering the store was like entering an entirely new world.  Along the walls were equipment and tools needed for all things under the sea.  We were both like kids in a candy shop, intrigued about what we had gotten ourselves into.

There, we met with Mark, who would be with us for the entire process of our certification.   After signing a few pages of waivers and instructions, we sat in the back of the store to go over the events for the coming weeks.  We set up our on-line classes and dates for pool training, then picked out our masks and snorkels.

After our training was over, we would have to complete four dives in order to receive our certification cards, and the possibilities for those dives were endless. The store offers trips all around the world with their instructors, from The Maldives to Belize. That was when I began to realize how many new doors scuba certification would open up for me. Not only will I be able to check something off of my bucket list, but I will also be able to explore much more of the world than I even knew was possible.

The coming weeks will be full of excitement in preparation for certification, and I will be sure to keep you posted throughout the journey.
