Easter in England.

Easter six years ago was quite different than the Easter I had today. There were no Easter baskets, no bunnies, no chocolates or jelly beans, no dinners with family. Instead, I was exploring the city of London with one of my close friends, Meghan.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!

Not only was the entire trip was filled with fun, from visiting famous sights to frequenting the bars, but it also marked several milestones for me as a traveler: my first solo plane ride, the first time I’d explored a city on my own, and my first holiday away from home. While everything about the trip was memorable, Easter Sunday was completely unforgettable.

Not being overly religious, we decided that we would spend our day dressed up exploring the city. We started by watching the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace and then roaming around St. James’s Park. We watched the birds swimming in the pond and took pictures by the blooming trees.

Then we headed to Kensington Gardens in search of Peter Pan’s statue. Wandering through the park, we saw families out celebrating the holiday, along with Kensington Palace, but we had a difficult time finding J. M. Barrie’s famous never-aging boy. After asking several people for directions, we finally found him.

Then Meg and I decided that we needed to end our perfect day with high tea. But, we didn’t just want to experience just any old high tea, we wanted something a little bit different. Which is why, we decided to head to The Berkeley Knightsbridge. Both lovers of fashion and shopping, we decided to experience the hotel’s Prêt-à-Portea, which is inspired by the latest fashions of the season.

We stayed for a few hours, enjoying each other’s company and the delicious tea and snacks. From the cookies shaped as dresses and shoes to the adorable striped plates and tea cups, this experience could not have been more perfect.

And, even though I was far away from home on this holiday, I can’t imagine having spent my Easter any other way. Experiencing a city and a traditional experience is a memory that I know will last with me for a lifetime.
